Creating theatre in Canterbury for audiences across the UK.
Marlowe Theatre Productions is the producing division of the Marlowe Theatre, creating ambitious new work from our home in Canterbury and sharing it with audiences across the country. Launched in 2025, our productions build on the Marlowe’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading regional theatres while championing new voices, fresh perspectives and unforgettable storytelling.
By bringing together our artistic, technical and production expertise, we develop work that begins life in Canterbury before reaching audiences nationwide. From large-scale touring drama to family productions and new writing, our ambition is simple: to create theatre that inspires, entertains and sparks conversation.
New writing and developing talent
At the heart of our work is the Writers’ Room, which supports playwrights and nurtures new voices through workshops, commissions, development opportunities and industry events. We believe great stories can come from anywhere, and we are committed to helping writers from Kent and beyond bring their ideas to the stage.
The Party Girls
Our producing journey began with The Party Girls by Amy Rosenthal, a bold new play that launched Marlowe Theatre Productions and marked the start of a new chapter for the organisation as both a presenting and producing theatre. The production opened at the Marlowe before embarking on a national tour.
A Tale of Two Cities
Building on that success, Marlowe Theatre Productions is bringing Charles Dickens’ epic novel A Tale of Two Cities to the stage in a major new production. Created in Canterbury and designed for audiences across the UK, the production continues our commitment to producing high-quality theatre with national reach, combining powerful storytelling with ambitious theatrical production values.
Launched at the Marlowe in September 2026 and the presented at the Leeds Playhouse the production then tours nationally in early 2027.
My Pet Star
Producing at the Marlowe isn’t only about large-scale touring work. Our Studio has become a home for original family productions, including My Pet Star, a magical new musical adapted for the stage by Lily Dyble. Created especially for younger audiences and families, the show demonstrates our commitment to developing imaginative and accessible work for audiences of all ages. Presented at the Marlowe in 2024 we are now exploring its future life.
The Reluctant Dragon
The next chapter in our Studio producing programme is The Reluctant Dragon, a charming new family production based on the much-loved story. Full of adventure, humour and heart, it continues our ambition to create high-quality theatre experiences that introduce young people to the magic of live performance and inspire a lifelong love of the arts.
Looking ahead
Marlowe Theatre Productions is still at the beginning of its story. Alongside future tours, co-productions and commissions, we will continue to invest in artists, develop new work and create productions that connect with communities in Kent and audiences across the UK. As a charity, every production we create helps support our wider mission to enrich lives through the arts and ensure that exceptional theatre remains accessible to all.
