Pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason discusses her upcoming performance at the Marlowe, her debut album Fantasie, and her love of Rachmaninov.

The Marlowe Theatre spoke with pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason ahead of her performance in Canterbury alongside conductor Marin Alsop. Kanneh-Mason began playing piano at age three, describing it as something she “instantly loved.”

She expressed pride in recording her debut album Fantasie. When discussing her upcoming performance of Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto, she noted it has “followed me through my entire childhood and early adulthood” and that she loves it more each time she returns to it.

For aspiring musicians, she recommends attending concerts frequently and studying diverse performers. She expressed particular enthusiasm about collaborating with Marin Alsop during her Canterbury residency.
