The Writers’ Room Festival is returning to The Marlowe Theatre with a comprehensive programme spanning April 30 to May 3, 2026. The event showcases new theatrical works from acclaimed playwrights Simon Stephens and Penelope Skinner, complemented by contributions from emerging local writers.
The festival features rehearsed play readings, educational workshops, and conversations with industry professionals including David Eldridge and Yolanda Mercy. One highlight includes Charlotte Khan’s debut play, Smelly Bum, developed through the theatre’s Writers’ Room courses.
The Writers’ Room itself, led by award-winning playwright Leo Butler, operates as a community space offering weekly courses and ongoing mentorship for aspiring playwrights.
